Wondering how to make homemade healthy idli/ dosa batter!!!! Don’t worry..i can help you with my step by step process for making idli/ dosa batter. I know there are ready made batter available in various malls and bakeries but homemade is always home made.Nothing can compensate for that. Very less time is required for making this batter. Raw rice with a combination of urad dal and little fenugreek seeds makes this idli/ dosa batter healthy, soft and delicious breakfast.Instead of yeast and soda powder i add left over cooked rice for making the batter smooth and fluffy. Whenever you require to make crispy dosas, then just remove the batter from refrigerator and add little water to batter to make crispy and soft dosas.This batter can be kept in refrigerator for a week.

Ingredients

  • Raw Rice – 3cups
  • Urad Dal – 1cup
  • Fenugreek seeds/ Ulava – apinch (optional)
  • Left over cooked rice – 1/2cup
  • Salt as per taste.

Method:

  • Soak raw rice with fenugreek seeds in water and separately soak uraddal in water. soak both for 9 to 10 hours.
  • Now grind first raw rice along with fenugreek seeds to smooth paste/ batter.add little water at regular intervals. Remove rice batter to a deep bottom vessel.
  • In the same way grind urad dal to a smooth batter. add little water at regular intervals.
  • Keep a note that much water can loosen the batter, so carefully add little water.
  • When urad dal is turned to smooth paste, add left over cooked rice and grind to a fine paste along with urad dal paste.

  • Remove grounded urad dal paste to the same rice batter vessel. Now nicely mix both rice and urad dal batter together so that it get mixed thoroughly.
