Medu Vada a traditional snack of South Indians. Usually in most of the South Indian restuarants, Medu Vada is served along with Masala Dosa. It is a very tasty snack made of urad dal adding some of the traditional spicy flavors. We have to just keep in mind that we need to make the medu vadas as soon as the batter is made otherwise the urad batter will start absorbing oil while making vadas. Ingredients:
- Urad Dal – 1cup split black lentils
- Onion – 1no finely chopped
- Green chilies – 3nos roughly chopped
- Ginger – 1inch finely chopped
- Peppercorns – 1/2 tsp kali mirch
- Curry leaves – 1tsp finely chopped
- Salt as per taste
- Coconut oil for deep frying
Method
- Wash Urad dal thoroughly and soak in water for at least 2 hours.
- After 2 hours, drain out complete water from Urad dal and blend it in a mixer to a smooth batter. If required, add little water.
- Now add the chopped onion, green cilies, ginger, peppercorns, curry leaves and adequate salt. mix well.
- Now divide the mixture into 6 equal portions.
- Heat oil in a kadai for deep frying.
- Wet your hand. take a portion of the mixture in your hand.
- Make a hole in the middle of mixture with your thumb finger.
- Upturn your hand and drop the vada in the oil.
- Deep fry the vada till both the sides turn golden brown in color.
- Same way, do for the rest portions of mixture.
