Murg Lahori…a little different version from our normal chicken curry. Chicken marinated in saffron (kesar) flavored gravy with a little tangy taste & creamy texture makes this dish yummy & presentable. This dish is a North Indian Recipe which today I have tried in Microwave as well as gas stove. I felt Microwave to be speedier than gas stove & Health wise also less consumption of oil.
Ingredients:
- Chicken with bones – 500gm (cut into 8pieces)
- Thick Curd/ Yogurt – 1cup
- Dry Fenugreek Seeds/ Kasoori Methi leaves – 1 ½ tsp
- Milk – ½ cup
- Saffron/ Kesar – ¼ tsp (soaked in 1tbsp warm water)
- Lemon Juice – ½ tsp
Paste:
- Onion – 2nos (finely chopped)
- Garlic – 6flakes
- Ginger – 1 ½ piece
- Garam Masala – 1tsp
- Chicken Masala – 1tsp
- Pepper powder – ½ tsp (optional)
- Degi Mirch – 1tsp
Microwave Dish:
Method:
- Put Chicken in a bowl. Add oil, lemon juice, ½ tsp salt & mix well. Cover & microwave for 10mins.
- Grind together all ingredients of the paste into a smooth paste in a mixer.
- Put the paste in a microproof dish and microwave for 5minutes.
- Add yogurt & kasoori methi. Mix very well.
- Add cooked chicken, milk, ½ cup water & soaked kesar. Mix well to coat the chicken with the masala.
- Microwave for 3mins. Serve hot.
- Murg Lahori is ready to serve hot. Best goes with Plain hot rice, Chapatti.
Normal Gas Stove:
Method:
- Put Chicken in a bowl. Add oil, lemon juice, ½ tsp salt & mix well. Keep it a side for 5mins closed.
- Grind together all ingredients of the paste into a smooth paste in a mixer.
- Heat Oil in a medium sized pressure cooker. Add the ground paste & nicely sauté till the raw smell of onion goes & nice aroma of masala smells.
- Add yogurt & kasoori methi. Mix very well.
- Add the marinated chicken, milk, ½ cup water & soaked kesar. Mix well to coat the chicken with masala.
- When the dish starts to boil, Close the pressure cooker with its lid & put pressure.
- When 1st whistle comes, low. flame & cook for 3mins.
Murg Lahori is ready to serve hot. Best goes with Plain hot rice, Chapatti.
