Paneer Tawa Masala

Paneer Tawa masala is a Punjabi dish and not commonly found in restaurants. Paneer cubes marinated in corn flour, curd and chat masala makes paneer a little tangy and tastier. Marinated paneer is roasted in low flame in frying pan or tawa gives a crispy touch to the dish and its gravy has a creamy finish due to fresh cream which gives a rich look and taste to this delicious dish.

Ingredients for marinade:

  • Paneer cubes – 250gms
  • Corn flour – 2tbsp
  • Chili powder – 1tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Chat Masala powder – ½ tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder – ½ tsp
  • Thick Yogurt/ Curd – 2tbsp
  • Dry fenugreek leaves – a pinch
  • Salt as per taste
  • Oil – 1tsp

Ingredients for gravy:

  • Onion – 1no (finely chopped)
  • Ginger – garlic paste – 1tsp
  • Tomato – 1no (finely chopped)
  • Chili powder – 1tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder/ Malli powder – 1tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder – 1tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1tsp
  • Fresh cream – 1tbsp
  • Oil – 1tbsp
  • Salt as per taste.


  • Mix all the ingredients mentioned under marinade. Keep it in refrigerator for 30mins.
  • Heat oil-1tsp in frying pan. Drop each marinated paneer cubes and fry till both the sides are slight brown in color.
  • Remove it and place in a bowl wrapped with paper towel. Keep it aside.
  • Heat again oil – 1tbsp in the same frying pan. Add cumin seeds.
  • When the cumin seeds turn brown in color, add chopped onion and little salt.
  • Sauté onion till they turn slight brown in color. Add Ginger – garlic paste and sauté for 2mins.
  • Add Chili powder, Turmeric powder, Coriander powder and Garam masala powder. Sauté in low flame for 2mins.
  • Then add the chopped tomatoes and cook till oil oozes out from sides.
  • Add roasted paneer cubes and adequate salt. Nicely mix all the ingredients together.
  • Close the pan with a lid and cook in low flame for 5mins.
  • Remove the lid. Add fresh cream and chopped coriander leaves.

Paneer Tawa Masala is ready to serve. Goes well with Chapatti, Nan, Butter Roti, and Fried Rice and various Rice Recipes.
