Rava Idly is a version of South Indian Breakfast – Idly, made with rava (semolina). This breakfast is a specialty of Karnataka state & henceforth this dish will be available more in Udupi restaurants. In Karnataka State this dish is famous in name of Rave Idly. Rave idly can go best with Coconut chutney. A spoon of ghee poured over the rave idly will make its taste authentic.

- Rava – 1 cup
- Curd – 1 cup
- Carrots – 1 nos {finely chopped)
- Milk – 1 cup
- Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp (Rai / Kadaka)
- Urad Dal – ½ tsp
- Curry Leaves – very little (I used 5 to 6 leaves)
- Coriander Leaves – Very little (I used 3 stems)
- Ginger – 1 inch (finely chopped)
- Soda powder – a pinch
- Oil – 1 tsp
- Salt as per taste

Method:
- Heat kadai, add oil & mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves. Let them splutter.
- Then add to it chopped ginger & chopped carrots & sauté for 2mins.
- Now add rava to it & sauté well. The rava should be fried well.
- Switch off the flame & let it cool.
- When the mixture is cooled, add curd, soda powder, coriander leaves, salt, little water & keep aside closed for 1 hour.
- After 1 hour the mixture would look dry so add the milk & water so that it becomes like idly batter.
- Pour the batter in the idly mould & steam it.
Rava idly is ready to serve with coconut chutney.
